Multi-Attribute Decision Making Using Hypothetical Equivalents and Inequivalents

چکیده
In this paper, the problem of selecting from among a set of alternatives using multiple, potentially conflicting criteria is discussed. A number of approaches are commonly used to make these types of decisions in engineering design, including pairwise comparisons, ranking methods, rating methods, weighted sum approaches, and strength of preference methods. In this paper, we first demonstrate the theoretical and practical flaws with a number of these commonly employed methods. We demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of the various decision-making approaches using an aircraft selection problem. We then present a method based on the concept of hypothetical equivalents and expand the method to include hypothetical inequivalents. Visualization techniques, coupled with an indifference point analysis, are then used to understand the robustness of the solution obtained and determine the appropriate additional constraints necessary to identify a single robust optimal alternative. The same aircraft example is used to demonstrate the method of hypothetical equivalents and inequivalents. @DOI: 10.1115/1.1814389#

A Method to Ensure Preference Consistency in Multi-Attribute Selection Decisions
A number of approaches for multi-attribute selection decisions exist, each with certain advantages and disadvantages. One method that has recently been developed, called the hypothetical equivalents and inequivalents method (HEIM) supports a decision maker (DM) by implicitly determining the importances a DM places on attributes using a series of simple preference statements. In this and other m...
متن کاملAn Approach to Robust Decision Making In Multidisciplinary Selection Problems Under Uncertainty
In this paper, the problem of choosing from a set of design alternatives based upon multiple, conflicting and uncertain criteria is investigated. Multiple attributes can arise when different disciplines contribute to the design of a product or process. The Overlap Measure Method developed in this paper models two sources of uncertainties – imprecise attribute values provided to the decision mak...
متن کاملRobust multiattribute decision making under risk and uncertainty in engineering design
In this article, the problem of choosing from a set of design alternatives based upon multiple, conflicting, and uncertain criteria is investigated. The problem of selection over multiple attributes becomes harder when risky alternatives exist. The overlap measure method developed in this article models two sources of uncertainties – imprecise or risky attribute values provided to the decision ...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of Simple Additive Weighting Method (SAW): The Results of Change in the Weight of One Attribute on the Final Ranking of Alternatives
Most of data in a multi-attribute decision making (MADM) problem are unstable and changeable, then sensitivity analysis after problem solving can effectively contribute to making accurate decisions. This paper provides a new method for sensitivity analysis of MADM problems so that by using it and changing the weights of attributes, one can determine changes in the final results of a decision ma...
متن کاملA Hybrid Multi-attribute Group Decision Making Method Based on Grey Linguistic 2-tuple
Because of the complexity of decision-making environment, the uncertainty of fuzziness and the uncertainty of grey maybe coexist in the problems of multi-attribute group decision making. In this paper, we study the problems of multi-attribute group decision making with hybrid grey attribute data (the precise values, interval numbers and linguistic fuzzy variables coexist, and each attribute val...
